Ready to discover how these simple yet powerful home fragrance can transform your space? Let's dive into the details of how reed diffusers work their magic.
What are reed diffusers?
Reed diffusers are a combination of fragrance oil and reeds that gently disperse scents into the air. The reeds absorb the oil and release the fragrance over time. This ensures a safe and effortless fragrance experience for you and your loved ones.
Reed diffusers have three key components:
- Reed diffuser liquid - All the goodness in liquid form.
- Reed sticks – Usually made with rattan or fibre.
- Bottle or vessel – Typically made of glass, this holds the liquid and reeds.
One of the great things about reed diffusers is their convenience. You can place them anywhere, and they’ll work effortlessly. However, there are a few steps to follow to make sure you get the most out of your diffuser.
- Preparation: Before setting up your diffuser, ensure the area is clean and place the bottle on a flat surface.
- Insert the reeds: Place the reed sticks into the bottle and ensure the bottom end of the sticks are fully submerged in the liquid. The more reeds you use, the stronger the scent. We recommend starting with 6 diffuser sticks.
- Spread the reed sticks: Arrange the reeds so they aren’t too close together. This allows air to circulate between them, helping the fragrance diffuse more effectively.
-
Flip the reeds: Once the sticks have absorbed some oil, flip them after about 1 hour so the dry ends are submerged and the saturated ends release the scent into the air. Allow up to 24 hours for the fragrance to fully develop and spread in your space.
Adjust the number of sticks and the diffuser’s location based on your desired fragrance intensity and the natural airflow of your space. For a stronger scent throw of our reed diffusers, we recommend to use all 6 reed sticks; for a more subtle fragrance, use fewer sticks.
Where to place your reed diffusers
Choosing the right location is key to getting the most out of your reed diffuser. Make sure to place it in an area with good air circulation, but out of direct sunlight to help the fragrance last longer. Some ideal spots include:
- Bedrooms
- Bathrooms
- Living Rooms
- Foyers and entryways
- Kitchens
- Offices
Airflow plays a significant role in how well the scent is distributed. In areas with good airflow, the fragrance spreads more evenly throughout the room, enhancing its reach and effectiveness. Conversely, in areas with limited airflow, the scent may become concentrated in one spot, leading to uneven distribution and a less effective aroma experience.
Reed diffusers are flame-free, low-maintenance, long-lasting, and provide year-round comfort to make your home feel warm and welcoming.
When to flip the reed diffuser sticks
Flipping the reed sticks once a week is usually sufficient to keep the scent fresh. For an instant boost in fragrance, flip your reeds when you notice the scent is less strong. Please note flipping them more often (every 2 to 3 days) will cause the oil to evaporate faster, so it’s best to find a balance. Typically, our Borneo Candle Studio reed diffuser can last up to 3 months.
